The Uterus Project

The Uterus Project

Can you imagine a world where all bodies are treated with respect?

Where our changes are honored and understood?

Where the most complex organ – where we all originate – is venerated?

The UTERUS is grossly understudied.

We have a lot of work to do to understand and build more compassionate spaces of understanding and empathy.

On April 21, 2023 – the day the Supreme Court decided the lower court case to reverse the 25 year FDA ruling on the drug Mifepristone – I sat in meditation and had a vision.

Later that day, on the steps of the Supreme Court, I brought that vision to life in the form of my very first Uterus Art. As I placed each flower, I breathed into it a wish:

May all bodies be treated with respect.

When I finished, I'd create a full uterus from flowers, complete with fallopian tubes, ovaries and vagina.

A photographer from the Associated Press approached me as I was placing the final flowers. I was so deeply absorbed in the experience that I only became aware of her presence when I heard her say, “What is this?”

“Do you have any guesses?” I asked in return.

“I have no idea,” she responded.

I do not think this person is alone.
The organ from which we all originated is truly a mystery to most.

Perhaps by witnessing its beauty, we can dispel resistance and confusion, allowing more ease in conversations around menarche, menstruation, birth, and menopause; the myriad stages we tend to suppress and misunderstand.

The most legislated organ should be understood in all its complexity, so let’s start by seeing it in all its beauty.

“There is no other organ quite like the uterus.

If men had such an organ they would brag about it. So should we.”
